Today our fifth graders walked the half mile or so over to the middle school they'll attend in the fall. They all gathered with a few other schools to hear the principal's presentation on the schedule, clubs, rules, etc. On the way there they asked me many questions. Some conveyed their nervousness and worries about moving to a new school. Some were simply excited.
We toured a couple of classrooms, the boys and girls locker rooms, the very cool fitness lab and walked around the campus quite a bit. The students took it all in and had lots of questions.
On the way back to our elementary school, many of them share a sense of relief that they had a better understanding of what to expect next year. As much as I hate to see most of them leave our school, I am also excited for what lies ahead for them next year.
