Today is Election Day across the country. I am thankful for my American citizenship and the right to vote. I am the first one in my immediate family born in the United States. My parents and older brother came to California from Germany in 1956 and I was born in 1962. Both of my parents and my older brother became American citizens in the 1960s so they could exercise the right to vote. They were proud they could do so.
I am proud to be an American. I am proud to vote in each election. I want my voice heard. It is a right I do not take for granted. I'm thankful I live in a country where the citizens have this right, especially women, as some countries do not recognize women as voters.
